Apraxia of Speech

A motor planning problem that affects speech, making speech difficult to understand. Children who show signs of apraxia of speech often know what they want to say but their speech muscles do not cooperate to make the speech sounds or words.

In older children with apraxia of speech, they often have difficulty in pronouncing multi-syllabic words (“computer”).

Apraxia of speech in adults

Apraxia of speech may continue into the teenage or adult years. People who have strokes, brain tumors or other neurological disorders may show signs of apraxia of speech also.
