A motor planning problem that affects speech, making speech difficult to understand. Children who show signs of apraxia of speech often know what they want to say but their speech muscles do not cooperate to make the speech sounds or words.
In older children with apraxia of speech, they often have difficulty in pronouncing multi-syllabic words (“computer”).
May appear to be groping when attempting to produce sounds or to coordinate the lips, tongue, and jaw for purposeful movement
